Thomas Laine Jewelry Blog
The last time a film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s epic work “The Great Gatsby” was brought to the big screen, the year was 1974 and Mia Farrow and Robert Redford starred. But on May 10th, Australian director Baz Lurhmann is bringing us a new take on Fitzgerald’s tale and, if the trailers are anything to go by, his version is going to be an absolute feast for the senses.
Lurhmann’s wife, Catherine Martin, is the costume and set designer on most of his films. For “Gatsby”, she enlisted Prada designer Miuccia Prada to create the sumptuous, 1920s-style costumes worn by Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) and various other cast members. For the jewels to be worn by Daisy, Martin worked with Tiffany & Co. (F. Scott Fitzgerald himself was actually a customer of theirs in his day) to revive some vintage designs from the Tiffany archives and also to create some new Art Deco-style pieces especially for the film.
At Thomas Laine, we are huge fans of 1920s-style jewelry and we are proud to carry a broad selection of vintage-inspired pieces from New York City-based designer Ben Amun. So, why dont we all take a cue from Daisy Buchanan and add a touch of Art Deco glamour to our wardrobes this Spring?
